 | How to get Here | |
Getting to Andalucia is very cheap and easy from the UK. There are two principle ways. The most economic is by plane and then renting a car. However for those planning a longer visit you can also drive here, via a ferry. From Bilbao or Santander to Andalucia is a long days drive, or from Cherbourg, Calais, approximately 2 days drive. Also of course as detailed below the Channel Tunnel | | By Plane | |
| Malaga | | The largest Airport in Andalucia and best for Central and Western Andalucia. Serviced by most airlines & charters. | | Alicante | | The second biggest airport, not actually in Andalucia itself but close enough for Western Andalucia. Serviced by most airlines and charters. | | Almeria | | Small and friendly airport. Serviced by most airlines and charters and getting busier daily. | | Murcia (San José) | | A Ryanair destination, this airport (also not in Andalucia but within 50kms) is about 30minutes from Murcia but conveniently near the coast. | | Granada | This airport has recently become an international airport. Ryanair and Monarch do daily flights to and from Gatwick, Liverpool and Stanstead. Internal flight are also available to Iberia for about €30. So a cheap flight to Madrid, Barcelona or Mallorca can be combined to bring you to the heart of Andalucia. | |
| Official and very good site for all airports in Spain. Available in English |
|
By Car | |
| Spain | | P&O ferries to Bilbao | | France | | Many options. The shortest drive being from Brittany / Normandy. The cheapest and quickest ferry routes being from Dover to Calais. Of course for those prone to sea sickness the Eurotunnel is a good alternative |
|
| Depending on your ferry choices you'll come down one of two routes | | Via Barcelona | Down the East coast on the A7 past Barcelona, Valencia, then either inland to Murcia or staying on the motorway around the coast via Benidorm & Alicante. At Puerto Lumberas Take the A92N to Granada or continue onto Almeria. The Tolls on the motorway from the French border to Valencia are quite expensive about €50. If you have time after Taragona take the N roads along the coastline, it will save a few pennies and the beaches make great stop offs/overs. After Alicante the motorways are free. | | Via Madrid | This route down the middle of the country. Very good motorway and not too expensive. For Granada you'll come via Jaén, following signs to Sevilla from Madrid till Bailén | | | |
